“Let no man seek his own, but every man another’s wealth … do all to the glory of God. Give none offence … even as I please all men in all things, not seeking my own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.”
1 Corinthians 10
My work is rooted in my Christian faith in a God of love, whose love flows over, in, through, with and from the whole of Creation, inseparable from the whole of humanity. God’s unconditional love is a yearning for us, as individuals and communities, to share and to participate in the fullest flourishing and diversity of life, the closest alignment of bios (the world we shape) to zoe (the overflowing, life-centring cosmos) on which we depend.
I am deeply convinced that environmental injustices and social injustices are intimately linked, stemming from the same failures to pay due attention to the wealth and wellbeing of others (whether human or more-than-human) over and above the wealth of ourselves. This leads to a fatal disconnectedness from the flows and relationships with the wider earth systems on which we depend; an hubristic and misplaced assumption that we can control the forces of nature to the benefit and convenience of Man, ignoring our waste and externalising our impacts.
This ecological faith underpins everything I do, although often quietly and implicitly. I am not a shouter or proselytiser: the work is both my practice and my posture towards God.
